Daughters of Revolution, 1932-Grant Wood

Grant Wood’s Daughters of Revolution painting, of the dour faced three women, is a self-stated satire in which Wood pokes fun at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  It was interpreted as a plea for democracy, and a stab at smugness.

The national DAR prided itself on having had the ultra-patriotic painting restored and installed it in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
